Welcome to Casco Bay Mindfulness Sangha
A meditation group in the Insight tradition
About CBMS
Our sangha community began as a small meditation group in a wood-heated shed in the 1980s. By 2001, the group had established itself with weekly meetings at the First Universalist Church in Yarmouth, Maine, until the pandemic forced a removal to Zoom. Currently, we continue to meet mainly on Zoom but enjoy occasional in-person gatherings in Brunswick. With a primary focus on Vipassana (Insight) practice, our approach is to provide a safe setting for both beginner and experienced practitioners, as we explore the teachings of the Buddha and the application of mindfulness in our daily lives.
In addition to the weekly gathering, the Casco Bay Mindfulness Sangha sponsors an annual "Winter Intensive." This is an invitation to the wider Maine community to renew and strengthen our practice of mindfulness at the beginning of each new year. See our events page for more information.
What We Do
We sit in silence for half an hour, then share a reading from a book on Buddhist teachings. Our in-person meetings include walking meditation. We read broadly to gain perspective from such authors as Joseph Goldstein, Christina Feldman, Narayan Liebenson, Phillip Moffitt and Gregory Kramer. A discussion follows as we explore with curiosity how the dharma helps us navigate the complexities of modern life.
Where and When
We meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Whether on Zoom or in-person, you are welcome to join us any Tuesday. See the Contact page for more information.
